Fort Saskatchewan, AB -The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP have received numerous complaints involving a phone scam where the local RCMP Detachment phone number (780-992-6100) is being used. Unknown person(s) are calling random citizens, identifying themselves as an “Officer”, and then indicating that there is a warrant out for their arrest. Victims of these scams are being advised that they owe a specified amount of money, and then asked for their personal information. Victims have described the caller to be a male sounding voice, with an East Indian accent. They have also indicated that the suspect is verbally aggressive, indicating if they do not pay, the police will come and arrest them.
Cpl. Jennifer BROWN with the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP advises “the police do not execute warrants over the phone, and they do not take your money in order to deal with outstanding warrants”. Police are warning the public that they should not provide anyone their personal or banking information over the phone, as you never know who is on the other end. If you have any concerns, please contact your local RCMP / Police Service, or attend your local detachment.
If anyone has any information regarding this crime, they are requested to contact Fort Saskatchewan RCMP at 780-997-7900.
