Youth Charged Following Use of Counterfeit Money in Cochrane

RCMP-1205Cochrane, Alberta – On September 10th 2016, at approximately 1 PM Cochrane RCMP responded to a complaint of possible counterfeit American bills being used in the Town of Cochrane.

Upon investigation, the Cochrane RCMP were able to locate a 16 year old Cochrane male after he had used a counterfeit $20 American bill to pay for services received. The intended victim had taken the bill to a bank and confirmed it was counterfeit before contacting the police. The victim was able to identify the male and advise the police of the male’s location. The male did try and flea from the police but was apprehended before he could get far.

The male was charged with:

• Possess Counterfeit Money
• Utter/Export Counterfeit Money X2
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Less than $5000 X2
• Identity Theft
• Resists/Obstructs a Peace Officer
• Alter a Firearms Licence

The name of the male will not be released as he is a youth but he was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court on September 12th 2016.

The Cochrane RCMP are still investigating a second complaint of counterfeit American bills being used at a separate business.
