West Vancouver, BC: A suspect is in custody and West Vancouver Police are working to identify additional theft victims after a residential break-in overnight.
Patrol officers were called to a home in the 3600 block of Mathers Avenue shortly after 1:00am. Residents were awakened by their dog barking and the sound of footsteps on the main floor of their home.
The homeowner subsequently found the door to the home open and several property items missing.
Patrol officers and a Police K9 unit responded to the area. A suspect was subsequently located and detained without incident. After further investigation, all property missing from the home was recovered.
Investigator have determined the entry door had been accidentally left unsecured.
The male was held in custody at West Vancouver Police headquarters for a first appearance at North Vancouver Provincial Court today.
Investigators are recommending several charges against a 45-year-old man of no fixed address. Officers also recovered additional property, believed to be from as yet unreported thefts in the area.
