BACKGROUND

Brandon, Manitoba – At 12:14 pm on Wednesday afternoon, a request for assistance was received from the White Butte Saskatchewan RCMP detachment. A break in to a business had occurred in the White Butte area earlier in the day during which numerous handguns had been stolen. A cell phone belonging to a suspect in the break in had given a signal indicating it was near 17th St north and Parker Blvd in Brandon. With a vehicle description provided by the RCMP, members of the police service Criminal Investigation Unit and Crime Support Unit conducted surveillance in the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Further information was received from the RCMP indicating the suspects had been involved in a pursuit with RCMP members. The suspects were operating a Dodge pickup that had rammed a police unit during the pursuit.

Around 1:45 pm further signals from the suspect’s cell phone gave a location in the Corral Center shopping mall parking lot. BPS officers attended and located a Dodge pickup with damage and bearing a license plate registered to a trailer in Saskatchewan. A male was observed entering the truck at 1:58 pm and driving through the parking lot. An attempt to stop the vehicle led to the man ramming a police vehicle and fleeing out of the parking lot and onto 18th St North where the vehicle proceeded north with BPS marked units pursuing. The suspect vehicle turned onto #1 highway at 18th St north and continued east. A spike belt was deployed by officers and the suspect’s vehicle rear tire was disabled. The vehicle then turned south bound onto 1st St North. Police units continued to pursue the vehicle as it travelled near White Swan Trailer Court and back onto Braecrest Drive where it drove west. As the vehicle returned to 18th St North, the pursuit was discontinued however the damage to the rear tire of the suspect vehicle had disabled it to the point that it continued south bound at a greatly reduced speed. BPS units followed the vehicle as it travelled south and returned to the Corral Center parking lot where the driver stopped and picked up two other subjects. The vehicle then drove to Kirkaldy Dr and in a easterly direction on Kirkaldy Drive before driving into the south ditch at the intersection with Cater Drive.

BPS officers conducted a high risk takedown of the vehicle and the occupants refused to exit the truck. Officers had to break the windows in the truck to remove the occupants. Three subjects were arrested at the scene and are in police custody. A 26 year old man, a 35 year old woman and a 15 year old male youth are in custody with charges to follow.
