Tracadie, New Brunswick – A Tracadie, N.B., man has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident of child abduction that is alleged to have occurred in the Tracadie area.
Members of the Tracadie RCMP responded to the complaint shortly before 7 p.m. on September 13, 2016. A child under the age of 14 who was riding a bike was allegedly approached by a man and taken to a nearby residence. The child was able to get away and leave the residence, and was not injured.
A 71-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident. He appeared in Tracadie Provincial Court on September 14, and has been charged with one count of kidnapping and one count of assault. His name is subject to a court-imposed publication ban intended to protect the identity of the victim.
The man was remanded into custody and will return to court on September 15 at 1:30 p.m. for a bail hearing.
The investigation is ongoing.
