Wood Buffalo RCMP and Major Crimes Unit charge second man in homicide

RCMP-1205Conklin, Alberta – The RCMP would like to confirm that on Thursday, September 15, 2016, 23-year-old Codie Deranger, was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the death of Tyler McDermid of Conklin, Alberta.


homicide-arrestTrevor Powder, 21 years of age, was arrested earlier this year on July 14, and charged with first degree murder in the killing of Mr. McDermid. Codie Deranger is the second man charged in this homicide investigation.

The body of Tyler McDermid was located inside his Conklin residence on August 11, 2015. The ensuing homicide investigation included members from the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit – North (MCU-North) based in Edmonton, as well as the RCMP’s Fort McMurray Forensic Identification Section (FIS), members from the Fort McMurray RCMP Detachment and the RCMP’s Vancouver-based Firearms Section.

Codie Deranger, of Edmonton, has been remanded in custody and appeared today in provincial court in Fort McMurray via CCTV.

The RCMP would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance in this investigation. Given that this matter is now before the courts, the RCMP will not be providing any additional information at this time.
