Male Arrested Following Reports of Shots Fired in Winnipeg

Winnipeg PoliceWinnipeg, Manitoba – On September 18, 2016 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of the sound of shots fired in the 400 block of Bannerman Avenue.

Numerous police units from two separate districts, along with members of the Tactical Support Team responded.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. members of the Tactical Support Team entered a single family residence in the 400 block of Bannerman Avenue. Officers located a fully loaded shotgun and ammunition within the house. It was determined that the shotgun had been fired multiple times in the rear yard of the residence. There was no injury or damage from the discharge.

A 20-year-old male from Winnipeg was arrested and detained in custody.

Joshua GOERTZEN was charged with the following offences:

  •  Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  •  Careless Use of Firearm
  •  Careless Storage of Firearm
  •  Possession of Weapon
  •  Discharge Firearm in a Reckless Manner
