Chilliwack police officer charged

Chilliwack, BC: A police officer with the Chilliwack RCMP is being criminally charged, related to an arrest he made on November 17, 2013, as well as the subsequent testimony he provided in court with respect to that arrest.


Cst. Jeff Van Woerden has been charged with the following:

Assault With a Weapon – Sec 267(a) CCC (1 count)
Assault Causing Bodily Harm – Sec 267(b) CCC (1 count)
Perjury – Sec 132 CCC (4 counts)

“These are serious charges”, says Superintendent Deanne Burleigh, Officer in Charge of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment. “The allegations demonstrate conduct that is not in keeping of my expectations for our members. Cst. Van Woerden will now have an opportunity to answer to these allegations in court.”

He will be appearing in Abbotsford Provincial Court on November 3 at 9:00 am. A separate Code of Conduct investigation remains ongoing. He is currently suspended with pay.

As the matter is before the courts no further comment will be provided.
