Brandon, Manitoba – At 11:30 pm, officers were conducting a checkstop in the 400 block of Richmond Ave. A Chevrolet Camaro was observed travelling west on Richmond Ave at a high rate of speed. One of the officers was able to leave the checkstop and locate the vehicle. It was stopped in the 300 block of Park Ave.
The officer observed the driver had been consuming alcohol and asked him to step out of the vehicle. The driver took off at a high rate of speed. The officer pursued the vehicle however the pursuit was ended by the officer when the suspect drive drove south on 18th St in the north bound lane. The driver continued south on 18th St against traffic and collided with a north bound van at 18th St and Louise Ave.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged. The two people in the van were not injured in the collision nor was the driver of the suspect vehicle. Police located the suspect vehicle in the 1700 block of Louise Ave and arrested the driver. He was transported to the police service and provided breath samples with results twice the legal limit.
The driver, a 25 year old with no fixed address, was lodged at Brandon Correctional Center and will appear in court on Friday on charges of Impaired Driving, Drive over 80 mg%, Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving, Breach of Undertaking as well as a warrant for Assault Cause Bodily Harm.
