RCMP Lay Charges in Local Marihuana Grow Operation, Children Living in Residence

Airdrie, Alberta – On Friday, September 9, 2016, members of the Airdrie RCMP Detachment executed a search warrant for a small marihuana grow operation at a residence in the North West community of Williamstown and seized 23 marihuana plants.


The home owner, a 34-year-old Airdrie man, has been charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA):

– Possession of a Substance (Section 4(1), CDSA);
– Production of a Substance (Section 7(1), CDSA).

Given that two children were living in residence at the time, the man was charged causing a child to be drug-endangered under Section 7 of the Drug-Endangered Children Act. The identity of the accused will not be provided by the RCMP in order to protect the identity of the children involved in this case.

The Southern Alberta ALERT Team attended to assist the investigation with the safe dismantling of the grow operation.

No further information shall be provided by the RCMP at this time as the matter is before the court, however, should additional details become available during the course of this investigation, an updated media release will be issued.
