Attempt Murder, Possess Restricted Weapon, Discharge Firearm, Breach of Recognizance in Brandon

Brandon, Manitoba – At 1740 hrs police received a report of an altercation on the street between two men and one of the men had a handgun and shots were heard. The area was patrolled extensively and police were unable to locate any of the involved parties.


At 1759 hrs BRHC reported a male was admitted with a gun shot wound to his chest. The victim was conscious and alert and provided police with a description of the shooter.

At 1822 hrs police received a 911 call indicating a male attended a downtown church and told a staff member when he came in that he was hiding from police because he shot someone. Police quickly attended the church where the accused was taken into custody without incident.

The victim suffered a single gun shot wound to the left side of his torso and a small calibre bullet was extracted by medical staff in Emergency Department. The victim did not require surgery and was released from hospital.

Police recovered a .22 calibre revolver handgun from a dumpster in the rear laneway of the 300 block between 9 Street and 10 Street.

Police determined that the accused was on a Recognizance for previous drug charges and was in breach of several conditions. As a result, a 24-year-old Brandon man has been arrested and charged with the above noted offences.

The investigation is continuing and further charges are anticipated.
