Brandon, Manitoba – A 28 year man and a 30 year old man, both from Brandon, are in custody following a series of incidents on Sunday afternoon. Shortly after 4:00 pm, the resident of a home in the 200 block of Park St reported that 4 men were at his home and 2 of them had forced their way inside. They were armed with firearms and had left the scene in a white SUV travelling west on Princess Ave. A second witness observed two men leaving the area in a black 4 door car. The victim indicated two men had kicked in the rear door of the residence and entered, one carrying a rifle and the second a handgun. Both men were wearing balaclavas. The other two men had remained at the front door and did not enter the residence.
While officers were investigating the initial complaint, several gunshots were heard south of Park St. Shortly after, officers located a white SUV travelling in back lanes and it was eventually stopped in the back lane of the 200 block of Russell St. The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the vehicle and a second man a short distance away. A magazine for a rifle and a knife were located in the vehicle. Officers searched the area and found a 9mm handgun not far from where the vehicle was stopped. The police service dog unit was called to the scene and was able to locate a semi automatic rifle in a vacant lot near the 200 block of Dennis St. Both firearms were loaded with ammunition.
A call was received from a residence in the 200 block of Lorne Ave East where several shots, estimated at 30, were fired at the home. There were no injuries to anyone in the home. The two men will appear in court on Monday. The charges the men are facing are related to the initial complaint on Park St. The investigation into the shots fired at the home on Lorne Ave East is continuing but it is believed to be related.
