Murder charge laid in Dale Porter homicide

St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador – A 53-year-old man from St. John’s has been charged with murder in connection with the 2014 death of Dale Porter of North River, N.L.


Late yesterday, Allan Winfield Potter was arrested without incident in Ontario by members of the Newfoundland and Labrador RCMP’s Major Crime Unit. He has been charged with the second degree murder of Dale Porter. Mr. Potter will be appearing in court in Ontario today and then will be escorted back to the province. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance in Harbour Grace.

On June 29, 2014, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Trinity Conception RCMP responded to a call at a residence in North River. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Porter outside his home suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was brought to hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Porter had been socializing at a licensed establishment that evening. When he returned home, an altercation took place outside his residence during which he was seriously injured.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit led the investigation into Mr. Porter’s death with assistance from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the London Police Service.
