RCMP seize firearms and recover $500,000 in stolen property

Clearwater County, Alberta – On September 28, 2016, RCMP Members from Sundre and Rocky Mountain House with the RCMP Auto Theft Section executed a Search Warrant for stolen goods at a rural property located near Rocky Mountain House in the Clearwater County.


This complex investigation started on September 27, 2016 as a result of a complaint of items stolen from a truck in Sundre. Information obtained during the investigation led the Sundre RCMP to a property south of Rocky Mountain House.

RCMP seized 16 brand new quads and snowmobiles, 3 new RV Units, 2 trailers, 1 low boy flat deck trailer, and 5 used trucks. Several firearms were also seized from the residence. Most of the quads and snowmobiles were still in the manufacturer’s crate, while some had been assembled on the property.

RCMP are continuing with their investigation and are in the process of determining ownership of all of the property. Most of the OHVs and snowmobiles along with the low boy trailer, were stolen from Calgary. Two of the RV Units were stolen from Sundre and one from Calgary.

“We’re always pleased with successful outcomes such as these”, says Sergeant Jim Lank, the NCO i/c of Sundre RCMP Detachment. “Any time we can take guns out of the hands of wrongful owners, we make a community somewhat safer.”

clearwater-county-1John Michael KIDD (38), of Rocky Mountain House, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with 11 property related offences in addition to two offences related to improper storage and licencing of firearms. He was released on his own Recognizance to appear in Provincial Court on October 26, 2016 in Rocky Mountain House.

Kacy SAVOIE (29), of Calgary, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with 11 property related offences and 1 offence for being in possession of a Controlled Substance. He has been remanded in custody to appear in Provincial Court September 30, 2016 in Red Deer.

Additional charges against both accused are pending in relation to the stolen OHVs and snowmobiles. This investigation covers multiple jurisdictions and it remains ongoing.
