Westlock RCMP charge two following theft of quad

Westlock, Alberta – On Sept. 26, 2016 at approximately 6:30 a.m., Westlock RCMP responded to a call of a theft of a quad at a residence in Westlock. Two males were alleged to have stolen a quad from the residence. One suspect was driving the quad while the other was driving a truck that was reported stolen earlier in the day. The victim attempted to stop the suspects from driving away in his own vehicle and a collision occurred with the truck. No one was seriously injured. The suspects fled the area on foot but were found a short time later by police and were arrested without incident.

During the investigation, several items that were previously reported stolen were recovered from the truck and returned to their owners.

Westlock RCMP have charged 28-year-old Dustin Travis Badke of Barrhead, Alberta with:

• Drive while disqualified
• Theft over $5000.00
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 (x2)

He was remanded into custody and will appear in Westlock Provincial Court on Oct. 5, 2016.

Westlock RCMP have charged 30-year-old Steven Curtis Payne of Barrhead, Alberta with:

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Theft over $5000.00
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 (x2)
• Traffic Safety Act – drive without a licence
• Traffic Safety Act – fail to remain at the scene of an accident

He was remanded into custody and will appear Oct. 26, 2016 in Westlock Provincial Court via CCTV.

As this matter is now before the courts, there will be no further updates in relation to this investigation.
