Multiple Coyotes Circle Man and His Dog in Winnipeg City Park

Winnipeg, Manitoba – Winnipeg Police received a report of an animal incident that occurred at Kilcona Off-Leash Dog Park near Springfield Road yesterday evening.


Officers met with a male who reported that he was at Kilcona Park walking his two large dogs on September 30, 2016, at approximately 9:30 p.m., when he came upon what appeared to be three large coyotes. The animals began to circle the male and his dogs. The coyotes followed the man until he was able to reach the safety of his vehicle, however, they continued to follow the vehicle until he left the park area. Manitoba Conservation has been advised.

Winnipeg Police are aware of a number of recent incidents of coyote sightings in the area of Kilcona Park. Coyotes are known to be most active during sunrise and sunset hours. Park users are advised to keep dogs on a leash, and pick up and carry small dogs if confronted.

Anyone encountering aggressive wildlife within the city is asked to contact Winnipeg Police at either 204-986-6222 if the situation is not an emergency or by 911 if they are at immediate risk.
