Scam Artist Targeting St. Albert Citizens

St. Albert, Alberta – Between the dates of October 3 and 4th, St. Albert RCMP received 3 reports where a scam artist has exploited people for large sums of money.

St. Albert RCMP would like to warn the community of a scam artist who is busy at work talking people out of their hard-earned dollars. The scam artist is approaching people in various parking lots in St. Albert including Staples, Rona and Rosedale. He stays in his vehicle, holding a map and asking for directions to the airport. He strikes up a conversation with his target and states he needs money to help him get home to Italy. He shows documents to support his story and offers gifts of leather jackets and suits as a thank you for loaning him money. He explains he is a fashion designer who cannot take the samples of clothing home with him. The suspect is well-rehearsed and very convincing allowing him to be easily believed. Although the scammer has targeted various age groups, it would appear he is focusing on our seniors.

The suspect is described as

• Mid 30’s
• tanned skin
• slight to average build
• 5’8″ to 5’9″
• Black hair, short with receding hairline
• Shortly trimmed beard; but scruffy
• Italian accent
• Wearing a silver chronograph watch

Suspect was last known to be driving a Nissan S.U.V., black in color (possibly a Rogue) with a gray interior.
