Thousands of contraband cigarettes seized in New Brunswick

New Maryland, New Brunswick – The RCMP seized a large quantity of contraband cigarettes on October 5, 2016, while a vehicle was at a checkstop set up by RCMP Traffic Services and N.B. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement on the TransCanada Highway near New Maryland.


Police seized approximately 730,000 contraband cigarettes that were in a U-Haul trailer being pulled by a van.

A 27-year-old man from Halifax, N.S. was arrested and later released. He is scheduled to appear in Fredericton Provincial Court on January 20, 2017, to face charges related to the seizure. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

The investigation continues.
