Brandon, Manitoba – Around 12:30 am, several reports were received about a vehicle striking a fence at 4th St and College Ave. Officers attended and located a 2005 Chrysler Sebring that had struck a fence and was extensively damaged, including a front tire torn off. Witnesses reported seeing several people walking away from the car and officers located three people nearby. The keys to the vehicle were found in the possession of man who was in this group. It was determined he had been driving the vehicle and as he showed signs of impairment, he was processed for impaired driving. The test results were below the legal limit.
The three subjects were interviewed and admitted to taking the vehicle from a repair shop on Rosser Ave. The two passengers, a 35 year old woman and an 18 year old woman, both from Brandon, were charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle and released to appear in court in December. The driver, a 23 old year man from Brandon, was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Mischief to Property and several Highway Traffic Offences in relation to this incident. He was also found in possession of several items taken from vehicles recently and he admitted to stealing them from those vehicles. He was charged with Theft under $5000 and Possession of Property Obtained By Crime for those offences.
He will appear in court in December.
