Fort Vermillion RCMP charge man with second degree murder

Fort Vermillion, Alberta – On Sept. 18, 2016 Fort Vermillion RCMP responded to a call of a stabbing on the New Tallcree Reserve. A male victim was stabbed by another male during an altercation at a residence and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A male suspect was arrested near the scene a short time later and remanded into custody. No one else was injured.


The 46-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries while in hospital and was pronounced deceased on Oct. 7, 2016. An autopsy was conducted at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton and additional tests are pending.

Members along with the RCMP Major Crimes Unit from Edmonton (MCU) have consulted with the Crown and charged Sheldon Lee Auger, a 42-year-old male from Fort Vermillion with second degree murder. Auger remains in custody and is scheduled to attend Fort Vermillion Provincial court via CCTV on Oct. 18, 2016.
