Child Transported to Hospital in Critical Condition, Police Investigate

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On October 18, 2016, at approximately 5:30 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence on Aikins Street in response to a call for medical assistance.

A child was transported in critical condition, however, since been upgraded to stable.

While inside the residence police became aware of a potential safety issue due to the presence of what investigators suspect may have been residue of the drug – fentanyl.

In order to safely deal with the risk, Winnipeg Police deployed members of the Clandestine Lab Team. Officers within this unit work in hazmat suits and are specially trained to work in potentially hazardous environments. Members of this team are capable of dealing with a variety of situations involving controlled substances. At no time were investigators of the opinion that a clandestine drug lab was in operation.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
