RCMP confirms homicide and arson in death of 71-year-old woman

Val-d’Amour, New Brunswick – The RCMP in New Brunswick’s Major Crime Unit has confirmed that a woman whose body was discovered following a house fire in Val-d’Amour, N.B., was the victim of a homicide, and that the fire was deliberately set.

On October 22, 2016, at approximately 8:45 a.m., members of the Campbellton RCMP were called to a fire at a residence on rue Melanson, after firefighters discovered the body of a woman inside the home.

The victim has been identified as 71-year-old Lucille Maltais, who lived in the home. The investigation has led police to believe that her death was a homicide and that the fire was the result of arson.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact the Campbellton RCMP at 506-789-6000.
