Police Deal with Seven Impaired Drivers in Two Hour Period, Multiple Collisions in Lethbridge

AMBER-ANI

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police are requesting the public to plan ahead if alcohol will be part of your Halloween activities. Last night police dealt with seven incidents of impaired driving during a 2 hour period from 2AM Saturday morning to about 4 AM.

1121

Four of the five drivers were involved in either single vehicle collisions and or multiple hit and run incidents. One of these included a roll over in the 2000 block of 12 Avenue South. The fifth driver was not involved in a collision or hit and run. Police are still unravelling the totality of the damages. Fortunately no one was seriously injured. The 2 remaining drivers were dealt with by immediate roadside sanctions.

Police unfortunately deal with impaired driving all too often, but not to this extent in recent memory. We understand that the vast majority of our community understands the seriousness of drinking and driving, however, many still are not appreciating the gravity of their decision.

Police are urging those that drink to please designate a sober driver, call a cab or find an alternative way home. In addition to the obvious safety concerns it also stretches Police resources to the limit and unnecessarily so.

Names of the drives are not being released at this time. This message is intended to ask the public’s assistance in helping us keep our streets safe this Halloween and upcoming holiday season.
