Nanaimo, BC: The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating two suspicious fires at Central Island Towing located at 140 Tenth St. The fires, reported at approximately 3 am on Saturday October 29th, destroyed several cars, one trailer and caused smoke damage to another trailer. Fire Crews responded and were able to contain each fire before extensive damage could be caused. No injuries were reported and no suspects have been identified.
One fire was set inside a 52 foot trailer which then spread to vehicles stored adjacent to it. Many of these vehicles were for salvage and were of little value. In total, ten were damaged and five were destroyed by the blaze. The second fire was started on the opposite side of the compound inside a Wilderness Travel Trailer. This fire only smoldered and did not spread or cause significant damage.
“Fire and police investigators were on scene for most of the day examining both areas for forensic evidence. This is the second suspicious fire in the past week which has caused significant property damage,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP. “While there has been nothing to indicate the two are related, investigators will be reviewing both incidents to see if there is a connection.”
