Medicine Hat Male Charged with Purchasing Sexual Services

Medicine Hat, Alberta – On November 1, 2016, members of the Medicine Hat Police Service Priority Street Crime Unit (PSCU) responded to an ad on a website in regards to female offering to provide sexual services at a local hotel. PSCU conducted surveillance on the hotel and subsequently arrested a 48yr old Medicine Hat male who attended to the escort’s room to purchase sexual services. He has been criminally charged with Purchasing Sexual Services and been released to appear in court at a later date.

On December 6th, 2014, Bill C-36 came into effect which made it a criminal offence to purchase sexual services from any person, and if sexual services are purchased from a person under 18 years of age, it is an indictable offence punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.

The Medicine Hat Police Service would like to remind members of the public, that often the sex workers are being exploited by criminal organizations and caution that it is a criminal offence to communicate with anyone for the purpose of obtaining for consideration, the sexual services of a person.
