Two From Calgary Charged with Fraud and Theft of Mail

Medicine Hat, Alberta – On October 26, 2016, members of Medicine Hat Police Service Patrol Section conducted a vehicle stop on a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of Pottery Street, SE. The male driver had a small amount of methamphetamine in his possession.

Upon further search of the vehicle members located: – numerous pieces of personal identity cards (Health Care, SIN) – numerous documents of personal information – several Alberta and British Columbia driver’s licenses – several personal cheques Members of Major Crimes continued the investigation and learned that the two accused had been breaking into mail boxes at large apartment complexes in Saskatoon and Calgary.

33-year-old Cody NORDGULEN of Calgary was charged with:

12 counts of possession of identity documents – s. 56.1 CC
6 counts of theft from mail – s.356(1)(b) CC
2 counts of possession of stolen property – s.355(b) CC
3 counts of breach of Recognizance – s.145(3) CC
Possession of controlled substance 4(1) CDSA

24-year-old Brittany HARRIS of Calgary was charged with:

12 counts of possession of identity documents – s. 56.1 CC
6 counts of theft from mail – s.356(1)(b) CC
2 counts of possession of stolen property – s.355(b) CC
3 counts of breach of Recognizance – s.145(3) CC

There may be additional charges pending further investigation. NORDGULEN and HARRIS were remanded into custody to appear in Provincial Court on November 8, 2016.
