Blackfalds RCMP on scene of explosion

Blackfalds, Alberta – Blackfalds RCMP are at the scene of a tanker trailer explosion that took the life of one man this afternoon in the Burnt Lake Industrial Park located north-west of Red Deer city limits.

Blackfalds RCMP received the report of an explosion at 1:40 pm on November 3 at J Moore Enterprises, located in the Burnt Lake Industrial Park, and have confirmed that one 35 year old man was killed in the explosion. There were no other injuries. A single tanker trailer exploded, destroying the tanker, causing minimal damage to surrounding buildings and scattering debris in a radius of approximately one block. Red Deer County Fire and Traffic members attended to assist with diverting traffic while the scene was contained, and to ensure the fire was extinguished.

Occupational Health and Safety are currently on scene and have control of the investigation into the cause of the explosion, which has not been determined at this time. Burnt Lake Trail is not closed to traffic.

RCMP have completed the sad task of notifying the next of kin, and will not be releasing the name of the deceased victim.

RCMP do not have any further information at this time but will issue an update on November 4.
