Winnipeg, Manitoba – In June 2016, an unidentified Winnipeg resident uploaded child sexual abuse imagery utilizing a web based chat room. The upload was identified by the site, at which time the matter was reported and determined that the user was utilizing an IP address located within the city of Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) entered into a lengthy investigation and identified a residence and suspect in the St. James area of the city.
On November 2, 2016, ICE Unit members along with Technological Crime Unit members and Uniform Patrol executed a search warrant at a residence.
An initial forensic review of a desktop computer revealed the presence of child sexual abuse imagery involving toddler aged children.
Further forensic analysis and investigation is continuing.
A 45 year old male resident has been charged with the following:
- Possession of Child Pornography
- Imports, Distributes, Sells or Possesses for the Purpose of Distribution or Sale any Child Pornography
He was remanded into custody.
