Jasper, Alberta – On November 9th, 2016, while conducting a foot patrol at the Sawridge Hotel, Jasper RCMP officers came across two intoxicated males who had been removed from the hotel bar for being belligerent and aggressive with other patrons.
The two males left on foot but police were advised shortly after that the same males were observed driving away in a vehicle. RCMP officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver sped away in an attempt to escape police. A pursuit ensued but ended shortly after when the suspect vehicle reached a dead end on Cottonwood Creek Road. The two male suspects fled on foot but were caught by police after a brief foot chase.
As a result of this investigation, a 24 year old male from Edmonton has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police and obstruction to a peace officer. He was also charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for possessing cannabis resin. The passenger of the vehicle, a 25 year old male also from the Edmonton area, has been charged with obstruction to a peace officer.
Both are set to appear at the Jasper Provincial Courthouse on January 12th, 2017.
