Police in Regina Investigate Shooting – UPDATED – One Adult and Five Youths Charged

Regina, Saskatchewan – One adult male and five young males are charged after an investigation into the shooting incident that occurred on Sunday November 13, 2016 in the 700 block of Athol Street. At about 2:45 am Sunday November 13, 2016, police were dispatched to the 700 block of Athol Street for the report of a shooting. Preliminary investigation indicated that two to three gun shots were fired at that location. One 14 year-old male and a 17 year-old male victim received injuries as a result of the gunshots, and both were taken to hospital.

Investigation led to a residence on the 700 block of Garnet Street, where six were arrested and charged, and two firearms were seized.

Twenty year-old Taurell Antonio ALEXSON (DOB: 1996/09/06), of Regina, is charged with:

Attempt murder [CC 239(1)(b)] x 2;
Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized [CC 92(1)] x 2;
Possession of a restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized [CC 92(2)];
Possession of a restricted weapon obtained by crime [CC 96(1)];
Pointing a firearm [CC 87(1)] x 2;
Unauthorized possession of a firearm [CC 91(1)];
Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition [CC 86(1)] x 2;

A seventeen year-old Regina male, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:

Attempt murder [CC 239(1)(b)] x 2;
Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized [CC 92(1)] x 2;
Possession of a restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized [CC 92(2)];
Possession of a restricted weapon obtained by crime [CC 96(1)];
Pointing a firearm [CC 87(1)] x 2;
Unauthorized possession of a firearm [CC 91(1)];
Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition [CC 86(1)] x 2;
Possession of a firearm/ammunition contrary to prohibition order [CC 117.01(1)]

A sixteen year-old Regina male, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:

Attempt murder [CC 239(1)(b)] x 2;
Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized [CC 92(1)] x 2;
Possession of a restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized [CC 92(2)];
Possession of a restricted weapon obtained by crime [CC 96(1)];

Unauthorized possession of a firearm [CC 91(1)];
Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition [CC 86(1)] x 2;

A fifteen year-old Regina male, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:

Possession of a restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized [CC 92(2)];

The accused made their respective first appearances on these charges in Provincial Court and Provincial Youth Court this morning, November 14, 2016, at 9:30 a.m.

BACKGROUND:

At about 2:44am Sunday November 13, 2016, police were dispatched to a report of a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Athol Street. Preliminary investigation indicates that two to three gun shots were fired at that location. One 14 year-old male and a 17 year-old male victim received injuries as a result of the gunshots. They attended to the hospital to be treated. The 14 year-old male was treated and released from hospital however the 17 year-old remains in serious but stable condition.
