Whitecourt, Alberta – RCMP in Whitecourt have noted a significant increase in the passing and attempted passing of counterfeit Canadian currency locally, especially in $100 bills.
Since August 1st, 2016, RCMP in Whitecourt have received fifteen (15) reports of counterfeit money being passed off as genuine or attempts to do this. Most of these calls are from local retailers and businesses.
Police are asking for increased vigilance in examining bills for authenticity. In some cases, scotch tape has been used and should serve as a warning these bills might not be genuine.
Anyone with information about these offences is encouraged to call police directly at 780-779-5900. You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers and if your information leads to an arrest, the recovery of stolen property and/or the seizure of illicit drugs you may be eligible for a cash reward.
