Cornwall RCMP charge two impaired drivers and a prohibited driver for damage to police vehicle

Cornwall, Prince Edward Island – Queens District RCMP were busy over the weekend charging two drivers with impaired operation of a vehicle, and one prohibited driver with obstruction and wilful damage to a police vehicle.

On November 19, 2016 just after 2:30 AM, Cornwall RCMP apprehended a 39 year old male driver from Cornwall after driving into a checkpoint on Kingston Road. The driver was taken back to the Queens District Office where samples of his breath were observed to be twice the legal limit. His vehicle was seized at the scene.

On November 20, 2016 just after 3:00 AM, Cornwall RCMP located a vehicle and two occupants idling suspiciously on Warren Grove Road. As police approached the vehicle, a 22 year old male driver from Covehead jumped immediately into the driver’s seat. Members observed signs of impairment. The driver was taken back to the Queens District where samples of his breath were observed just over the legal limit. His vehicle was also seized.

Then, on November 22, at approximately 7:45 PM, following a complaint of a suspicious vehicle parked (again) on Warren Grove Road, Cornwall RCMP approached a 37 year old male driver from Hazel Grove whom they believed was prohibited from driving. As the lone officer approached the vehicle, the driver fled immediately striking the front right side of the marked cruiser. The member was not injured. The driver turned himself in to Queens District RCMP earlier this morning. Charges for prohibited driving, obstruction and mischief are pending.
