Dangerous Encounter with Police Results in Serious Criminal Charges

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – A 24 year old Prince Albert man is facing numerous serious criminal charges after a dangerous encounter with police in the early hours of Wednesday November 23rd, 2016.

The PAPS had been searching for an individual who was wanted for numerous warrants. At approximately 2:00 am a patrol officer observed this male standing in the unit block of River St West. The officer approached and arrested the suspect male, once the officer attempted to take the subject into custody the individual began to fight with the officer in a desperate attempt to get away. During the altercation the suspect produced a handgun that changed the complexity of the altercation and allowed the male to break free from the officer and run away.

The suspect then stole a nearby taxi cab while brandishing a firearm and led police on a pursuit, the offender was the only occupant inside the stolen taxi during the incident. With the assistance of the Prince Albert RCMP, the suspect was eventually captured and taken into custody without any injuries to officers or to the subject.

The male now faces numerous charges including, Assaulting a Police Officer, Robbery with a Firearm, Use of a Firearm in Commission of Offence, Carless Use of Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carry a Concealed Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm Knowing it’s Possession is Unauthorized, Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police and numerous Breaches of Court Order.

The male will be making his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday November 24, 2016.
