UPDATE: Rental Fraud Expands to Bad Cheque Charges in St. Albert

St. Albert, Alberta – St. Albert General Investigative Section and St. Albert General Duty investigators have continued to look into the rental fraud case that involved 69-133 Eastgate Way in St. Albert. Additional reports of Non Sufficient Fund cheques being used in St. Albert have resulted in additional charges being laid.

Craig Archibald Ayers, age 51, or St. Albert, Alberta now faces 44 additional Criminal Codes charges since the original 13 charges of Fraud that were laid in August or 2016. All 44 charges are either False Pretences or Fraud.

This court case has been adjourned to January 9, 2017 for Court in St. Albert.

BACKGROUND:

St. Albert, Alberta – St. Albert RCMP is warning potential renters in St. Albert to be aware of some fraudulent rental ads for places to live. The Fraudster poses as a Landlord and posts a rental ad on the internet. The Fraudster posts photos of a rental property from a previous rental ad and then requests a security deposit, usually paid through a money order/money gram or e-transfer. The new tenant may make multiple payments to the fraudulent Landlord before realizing there is not an actual rental.
