Inverness, Nova Scotia District RCMP busy with drug seizures

Inverness District , Nova Scotia – Inverness District RCMP’s Street Crime Enforcement Unit has been busy with drug enforcement. Last week, a traffic stop led to the seizure of quantities of cocaine, oxycodone, and marihuana, a home was searched for marihuana, then a quantity of oxycodone pills were seized following another traffic stop.

On January 11, two vehicles were stopped on Embree Island Rd. for a traffic infraction. Both vehicles were searched and as a result quantities of cocaine, oxycodone, and marihuana were seized. Two men were arrested and charged with drug offences. Sylvain Joseph Landry, of Port Hawkesbury is charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and is due in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on March 27. He was released from police custody later that evening. Dexter Brett Sutherland, 26, of Port Hawkesbury is charged with two counts of Breaching an Undertaking and four counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He returns to Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on February 27. He was arrested that day and remanded.

On January 16, following an investigation, RCMP officers searched a home on Marble Mountain Rd. and seized marihuana and cash. Twenty-four-year-old Bradley David MacDonald of Marble Mountain was charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and is scheduled to attend Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on March 27. He was released from police custody later that day.

On January 17, a traffic stop for a cell phone infraction led officers to seizing a quantity of oxycodone pills. Joel Francis Hugh MacDonnell, 33, of Port Hawkesbury was arrested and held overnight for court. He is charged with two counts of Breach of Undertaking, Trafficking, and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He returns to Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on March 2.

A traffic stop on Reeves St. on January 18 led members of Inverness District RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit to charges against two men for drug-related offences. Cash, oxycodone, and marihuana were seized and two men were arrested. This then led RCMP officers to search a home, where more oxycodone pills, a quantity of cocaine, and marihuana were seized. Leonardo Joseph Basile, of Port Hawkesbury is charged with three counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was held in custody overnight and released the following day. He returns to Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on February 1. Avery John Sutherland, of Antigonish is charged with one count Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was released later that evening. He is scheduled to attend Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on February 27. Charges are pending against a third man, a 22-year-old from Port Hawkesbury.
