Numerous charges laid after short police pursuit

Sherwood Park, Alberta – On Sunday January 29, 2017 at approximately 3:18 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP received a report of a female allegedly being assaulted and forced into a white Chrysler 300 in a parking lot of an apartment complex located on Bison Way. A witnessed then observed the suspect vehicle flee northbound on Sherwood Drive and contacted police.

The vehicle was located by RCMP travelling west on Highway 16 near the Beverly Bridge. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle and activated the lights and siren however the driver sped up and proceeded into Edmonton. RCMP followed the vehicle where it was observed to take the exit ramp at Victoria Trail. A brief pursuit was initiated and the suspect drove between two vehicles stopped at the red light at 118th Avenue where it then collided with a northbound SUV.

Several occupants of the suspect vehicle attempted to flee the area on foot but were apprehended shortly afterward by RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service with the assistance of Edmonton Air-1. In total six people were arrested at the scene.

A 30 year old male passenger in the SUV and a female youth in the suspect vehicle were transported to a local hospital and treated for non- life threatening injuries and released.

During a search of the suspect vehicle police located a knife, machete, balaclava and a can of bear spray.

The Strathcona County RCMP will maintain control of the criminal investigation while the Edmonton Police Service is investigating the collision.

The following individuals are now facing numerous criminal charges in relation to this incident.

A 14 year old female from Edmonton is charged with:

  • Three counts of fail to comply with undertaking.
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
  • One count of resist arrest.

A 15 year old female from Edmonton is charged with:

  • Two counts of fail to comply with undertaking.
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
  • One count of resist arrest.

Both youths have been released and are scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Tuesday February 28, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.

Robert Keith KINZEL, age 22 of no fixed address, Jordan Elden LAROCQUE, age 24 of Edmonton, Alberta and Bryce Amber MURPHY, age 19 of Edmonton, Alberta have been charged with:

  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
  • One count of resist arrest.

KINZEL and LAROCQUE have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Wednesday February 1, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.

MURPHY was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Wednesday February 1, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.

Rylie David HOMENIUK, age 19 of Edmonton, Alberta has been charged with:

  • Three counts of fail to comply with recognizance.
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
  • One count of resist arrest.

HOMENIUK has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Wednesday February 1, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.
