Five Youth Charged in Winnipeg’s Million Dollar Arson Fire

Winnipeg, Manitoba – As previously released -On April 6, 2015 at approximately 6:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a working fire at a vacant building located at 44 Hargrave Street.

As a result of the fire, a neighbouring building was evacuated which also sustained damage.

Witnesses indicated that several youth were observed fleeing the area suggesting the fire was deliberately set. The suspects were described as being between 14-15-years-of-age.

Damage is estimated at $1,000,000.00.

Members of the WPS Arson Unit were notified and continued to investigate.

As a result of the investigation and the support of the public, five youth have been identified and arrested due to their alleged involvement.

The investigation has revealed that the youth entered the apartment building and deliberately set the fire.

Two 13-year-old males, a 12-year-old female, 14-year-old female and 15-year-old female are facing the following charges:

Arson causing damage to property
Arson with disregard for human life
Break, enter and commit arson
Possession of incendiary material

They were released on a promise to appear.
