Slave Lake RCMP investigate theft of vehicle in drive thru

Slave Lake, Alberta – On February 3, 2017 at approximately 09:00 a.m., Slave Lake RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen truck that was in a drive thru at a business in Slave Lake. Police attended and attempted to stop the truck but it fled the area on Highway 2. A pursuit was not initiated due to public safety.

While patrolling the area, police located the truck on Highway 88 parked on the side of the road. The driver attempted to flee a second time colliding with a police vehicle causing minor damage. The vehicle continued onto Highway 754 for a short distance, then drove into the ditch. The driver then jumped out and fled into a wooded area. He was arrested a short time later and no one was injured during this incident.

A 17-year-old male youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces multiple charges including Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle, Driving while disqualified, and Possession of property over $5000.00. At the time of his arrest, the youth also had criminal matters before the courts from other areas. He was remanded into custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for February 22, 2017 in Slave Lake Provincial Court.
