Fatal Two Vehicle Collision on Highway 16 East of Jasper

Jasper, Alberta – On March 11, 2017, at approximately 10:45 p.m. while on patrol, Jasper RCMP came across a two vehicle collision on Highway 16, approximately 15 kilometres east of Jasper. The collision was between a van and a truck.

Two occupants of the van were deceased at the scene, a 33 year old women and her 10 year old daughter. An 8 year old boy in the van was not injured and a 56 year old women suffered minor and non-life threatening injuries. All occupants of the van are from B.C.

The driver of the truck, a 51 year old male from Calgary was transported to hospital in serious condition. RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of an RCMP collision analyst.

All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered, and the collision remains under investigation. Highway 16 was re-opened this morning and traffic is no longer being re-routed along Highway 40 and Highway 93.
