Woman beaten and sexually assaulted while jogging at night

West Shore, BC – West Shore RCMP is currently investigating a sexual assault on a woman while she was jogging in Colwood.

At approximately 10:40 p.m, on March 12, 2017, police were notified about a stranger who had beaten and sexually assaulted a 32 year old woman while she was out jogging on the Galloping Goose trail near Pickford Rd in Colwood.

West Shore RCMP responded quickly, along with the Police Dog Service (PDS) handler but were unable to locate the suspect.

The woman was treated at the scene by BC Ambulance and was transported to hospital to be treated for her injuries. Although police recognize these situations to be very traumatizing, her injuries are deemed to be non-life threatening. The victim and her family have since been provided additional support from the Greater Victoria Victim Services.

“The investigation remains in its early stages and police are still working on gathering evidence and determining the course of events,” states Cst. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for West Shore RCMP.

Police would like to remind the public to be aware of their surroundings if using trails, especially if out of the public’s view, and to report any incidents right away.
