UPDATE: Bodies of Missing Persons Discovered in Burned Structure

Fox Lake, Alberta – The investigation into a fatal house fire in the community of Fox Lake continues as police continue to hold the scene of the fire awaiting the completion of an examination by the provincial fire investigator for the determination of the cause of the blaze.

Yesterday, at approximately 12:35 p.m., members of the RCMP in Fox Lake received a report of a fire at a home on River Road in the community. Upon arrival at the scene the responding police officers observed that the house was fully engulfed in flame and that local firefighters were engaged.

The home was destroyed by the fire and all but two of the residents had been accounted for by police during the course of their investigation yesterday.

Today, police can confirm that the remains of two people have been located inside the burned structure: a child and an adult. Four other residents of the house received treatment for smoke inhalation; three people were airlifted to Fort Vermilion for treatment and medical attention and one person was taken to the Health Centre in Fox Lake where they were treated and released. The identities of the deceased persons are not being released by the RCMP.

The ongoing police investigation is utilizing resources from the Fort Vermilion and High Level RCMP Detachments including the Victim Services Unit (VSU).

The thoughts of the RCMP are with the family of those lost in this tragic fire, as well as with the members of the community of Fox Lake at this time.

Two People Missing Following House Fire in Fox Lake, Alberta

Fox Lake, Alberta – Members of the Fort Vermilion RCMP Detachment are investigating a house fire in the community of Fox Lake which occurred earlier this afternoon and may have resulted in the death(s) of one or more people.

Today, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Fort Vermilion RCMP Detachment received a report of a fire in a residence located in Fox Lake. The local fire department had responded to the blaze and was able to extinguish it.

At the time of writing, all but two of the residents of the home have been located. The scene has been secured and police are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire and to determine whether there have been any fatalities.

Fox Lake is located approximately 152 kilometres east of High Level and currently is accessible by winter road.
