Leduc County, Alberta – Leduc RCMP are investigating an incident involving a suspicious male walking on Highway 625 near Range Road 232 carrying a loaded rifle.
At 2:59 a.m. on March 15, the RCMP received a 911 call that an off duty Edmonton Police Service officer, on his way home but still in full uniform, had observed a male on the side of the road carrying a loaded rifle and a duffle bag. After contacting the RCMP, the EPS member stopped the male and arrested him. As a result of a physical altercation that occurred during the arrest, the male suspect suffered a minor injury.
The male was transferred to the custody of the Leduc RCMP and was subsequently transported to an area hospital for assessment where he has since been released.
Following the RCMP’s identification of this suspect, it was determined that he was wanted on a warrant out of Edmonton jurisdiction.
The RCMP seized a loaded SKS rifle, which the male was carrying as well as a loaded Marlin rifle, ammunition and bow from within the duffle bag. Some items were determined to be stolen. It was determined the Marlin rifle was stolen from a motor vehicle in the City of Leduc on January 24, 2017.
