Edmonton, Alberta – An ALERT Internet Child Exploitation and Edmonton Police Service investigation has led to child pornography charges against a 56-year-old Edmonton teacher.
David Belke was arrested in Edmonton on March 17, 2017 and has been charged with possession of child pornography. Belke is heavily involved in Edmonton’s theatre community and was a substitute teacher in Edmonton.
Currently ICE has no information to suggest he offended on any children but are encouraging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact police. Anyone with information about this investigation, or any child exploitation offence is encouraged to contact local police or cybertip.ca.
The investigation began in late February after information was received from the public. Belke’s computer was seized and an examination found child sexual exploitation photos and videos. The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be possible.
Belke is scheduled to appear in court on April 6. He was released on a number of conditions, notably:
- Not be found in any place where children 16 years of age or younger are present unless they are in the company of a parent or guardian;
- Not be found within 100 meters of a public park, recreation facility, daycare, or other facility that children 16 years of age or under would be present;
- Not obtain or hold employment or volunteer any location where it could be reasonably foreseen that a person 16 years of age or under may be present.
ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime. Members of Alberta Sheriffs, Calgary Police Service, Edmonton Police Service, Lethbridge Police Service, Medicine Hat Police Service, and RCMP work in ALERT.
