Oyen, Alberta – Oyen RCMP are currently at the scene of a fatal two vehicle collision on Highway 9 near Range Road 51. Alberta Transportation has closed the highway near the collision scene.
West bound traffic has the option of re-routing either north or south bound on Highway 41 and east bound traffic has the option of re-routing either north or south bound on Highway 884 or on Highway 886. Traffic is expected to be re-routed for the next 8 to 10 hours. An RCMP collision analyst is on route to assist with the investigation.
Preliminary investigation has determined that a head on collision occurred between a west bound SUV and an east bound Semi. Visibility in the area is currently poor due to heavy fog. RCMP are reminding motorists to drive with care in this area due to the current weather conditions. The adult female driver of the SUV and only occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured. Following the collision both vehicles ended up in opposite ditches.
All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered, and the collision remains under investigation.

Oyen, Alberta – Highway 9 near the collision site has re-opened to normal traffic flow. RCMP can advise that the deceased was a 32 year old female from Calgary. Next of Kin has been notified. The scene investigation has determined that the west bound SUV crossed into the oncoming lane.
