Maskwacis, Alberta – Members of the Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachments, as well as from the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit – South (MCU), are investigating the suspicious death of a man this morning at a residence in the Samson Cree Nation town-site.
Earlier today, at approximately 1:49 a.m., Maskwacis RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a home within the Samson Town-site, wherein three individuals were injured. Police arrived on scene and located two injured men who stated they had been assaulted in the same house where police found another man who had succumbed to his injuries. All three men are believed to be victims of a home invasion. Police do not have anyone in custody at this time.
The RCMP’s Forensic Identification Section (FIS) and Police Dog Services (PDS) are in Maskwacis assisting investigators. Resources from the Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachments are being utilized and include the Wetaskiwin General Investigation Section (GIS) and Maskwacis Community Response Unit (CRU). The investigation is in its early stages as police process the scene and conduct witness interviews.
An autopsy will be conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton on Wednesday, March 29, to determine the cause and manner of death of the deceased.
