Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP evacuated an apartment building in the area of 51 Street and 50 Avenue and briefly closed several downtown streets to traffic last night while they determined that a suspicious item in the building was not an explosive device.
At 7:15 pm on March 28, Red Deer RCMP received a report of a suspicious box with wires protruding from it on the second floor of the downtown apartment building. RCMP responded immediately, evacuating the building and cordoning off the area to traffic and pedestrians. A member of the RCMP Explosive Device Unit attended and concluded that the item was not explosive or dangerous, and tenants were allowed to return to their residences.
The investigation has been concluded, and RCMP thank the public for their cooperation and patience while police ensured the safety of residents.
