Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP took three men and a woman into custody shortly before 3 am on April 21 after they fled police in a stolen truck and eventually crashed into the front steps of a house in Clearview Ridge.
Red Deer RCMP located the stolen white Ford F150 at approximately 2:30 am as it drove southbound on 30 Avenue near 22 Street. The truck continued along various range roads and township roads south of the city, driving at high speeds; at that point, RCMP engaged in a pursuit of the stolen truck while more police officers moved to intercept it and lay a tire deflation device. The truck avoided the first tire deflation device but, as it sped back toward Red Deer, it ran over a second one placed at Highway 595 and 30 Avenue. The device successfully flattened the front driver’s side tire but the truck continued northbound on 30 Avenue at high speed, eventually crossing the median and driving in the southbound lane before turning into Clearview Ridge, where the truck collided with the front steps of a home on Crossley Street.
“RCMP officers conduct continuous risk analysis when engaging in a pursuit, and public safety is always top of mind,” says Constable Derek Turner of the Red Deer RCMP. “In this case, the stolen truck encountered no traffic until it began to drive northbound on 30 Avenue. Because it’s a long, clear stretch and traffic was light, drivers were able to see the police lights from a distance and take steps to avoid colliding with the stolen truck.”
No civilians or police officers were injured during this series of events. Red Deer Emergency Services attended and the driver of the stolen truck was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The front pillars and steps of the home on Crossley Street were damaged in the collision, and Red Deer Fire also attended to examine the damage to the home and ensure it was safe for the residents to return inside.
A 31 year old man, a 26 year old man, a 32 year old man and a 32 year old woman were all taken into custody. Red Deer RCMP will issue an update as more information becomes available and once charges have been sworn before the courts.
