Edson RCMP Investigating Random Assault in Public Street

Edson, Alberta – RCMP in Edson are investigating after a suspected random assault took place in on a public street. On April 26th, 2017 sometime between 10:00 and 10:30 PM an older man was walking in the area of 4th Avenue (Highway 16 West) and 54th Street in Edson when he was assaulted by a person unknown to him.

The victim suffered numerous cuts, abrasions and bruising, especially to his face and is being treated in Hospital. Police believe a weapon was used in the attack, but are still investigating other aspects of the assault, including possible motives.

“This assault occurring in the vicinity of Highway 16, would have been very public,” states Constable Alex Ayres of the Edson RCMP Detachment. “We hope that someone driving by may have witnessed this incident taking place and have knowledge that will assist us in identifying who is responsible.”
