Two Males Charged with Assault with a Weapon After Brandishing a Large Knife in Park

Spruce Grove, Alberta – On April 4, 2017 at approximately 6:05 PM Stony Plain/ Spruce Grove/ Enoch RCMP responded to a 911 call of a man being chased by an unknown male brandishing a large knife in a local park.

A couple were jogging with their dog on a trail system in Spruce Grove when they passed by two unknown males sitting on a bench. One of the males engaged in a verbal argument with the man and his fiancee. The suspect male then challenged the man to a fight, at which time the suspect also produced a large machete type knife and made death threat towards the man and his dog.

The two males began to advance towards the man who was an off duty police officer and his fiancée.

The victims did not suffer any injuries.

Coulton Lee BLENKHORN, age 27 of Spruce Grove is being charged with Assault with a weapon, possess weapon, utter threats, and possession of marihuana. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Edmonton Provincial Court on April 27, 2017.

Eric Brian VAN DE VRIE, age 26 also of Spruce Grove has been charged of assault with a weapon. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Stony Plain Provincial Court on May 31, 2017.
