Drayton Valley RCMP warn residents to lock vehicles

Drayton Valley, Alberta – Drayton Valley RCMP received several complaints of Thefts of Motor Vehicles and Thefts from Motor Vehicles over the past month. They would like to remind residents to be vigilant in order to prevent vehicle thefts. Thieves are known as opportunistic offenders and tend to look for easy targets like unlocked and unattended vehicles. Leaving your unlocked vehicle running, leaving a spare key inside the vehicle and having valuables visible are all risks and could result in vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles.

Thieves are searching residential neighbourhoods and parking lots looking for unlocked vehicles, vehicles left running and visible valuables.

“Don’t make yourself a victim” says Sgt. Erin Matthews of the Drayton Valley RCMP. “If you leave your vehicle unlocked and running, your chances of becoming a victim are increased as it only takes a few seconds for an opportunistic thief to jump in and drive away”

Drayton Valley RCMP would also like to remind the public to report any suspicious activities to the police.
